I joined Alpha Theta Delta, a professional design fraternity, to deepen my understanding of the design process while collaborating with fellow students at the University of Michigan. Through weekly assignments and shared projects, we learned and designed together, building technical skills and creative problem-solving abilities. Take a look at the work I’ve done with ATD!
Through weekly assignments in ATD, I built proficiency in tools like the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, and HTML/CSS. Each week, we presented our work to the organization and received critiques from other members. This experience taught me how to effectively critique both my work and others’, identify areas for improvement, and apply feedback to strengthen my designs.

ETA BRAND PROJECT

ROLE

Site Design

As part of Alpha Theta Delta’s Eta class, I collaborated with 19 peers to create a cohesive brand identity, working on the site design team alongside teams focused on logo design, social media, and infographics. Early challenges with communication led to misaligned design elements, so I organized a team meeting to establish clear communication and align our creative visions. The final branding, including our website design and promotional materials, is featured on ATD’s website and social media platforms.

Our Eta class brand draws inspiration from the iconic design of the NYC subway system, created by Massimo Vignelli. We embraced the idea of connection and movement, tying it to our Greek letter "Eta," which symbolizes "estimated time of arrival." Just like subway lines converge at a destination, our diverse class members, each with unique backgrounds and talents, came together in Ann Arbor to create something greater than ourselves. The clean, structured visuals reflect the precision and clarity of subway maps, while the vibrant color palette celebrates our individuality and collective journey. Our brand serves as a metaphor for collaboration, growth, and the paths that unite us.

Create a low-fidelity solution to improve warehouse operations by addressing these challenges: fragmented communication between the three jobs(pickers, packers, and shippers), unpredictable workflows due to last-minute changes, and changing order priorities during peak demand times in 3 hours. Design a system that adapts to surges in demand while ensuring efficient collaboration and prioritization of expedited, normal, and canceled orders.

Time matters

The experience was a reminder of how rewarding the design process can be, even when condensed into such a short timeframe. Rushing through ideation, problem-solving, and prototyping taught me quick, collaborative thinking while highlighting just how much effort goes into creating meaningful solutions. It was a whirlwind, but seeing our final concept come to life at the end was a blast.

What would I do differently?

I would explore how this system could function on alternative platforms, like wearable devices or handheld scanners, to enhance usability and accessibility in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
